CHRISTMAS EVENTS IN SOMERSET 2026 – Markets
Buy something beautiful at a fantastic Somerset Christmas market. Below are a few favourites.
Bath Christmas Market. This Christmas market takes place from 26 November – 13 December 2026. Over 200 stallholders and festive entertainment. (Mon-Wed 10am to 7pm, Thur-Sat 10am to 8pm, Sun 10am-6pm.)
Bishop’s Palace Artisan Christmas Market is on 14 and 15 November, Adults £9. Over 60 stalls and a food zone.
Bristol’s Christmas market runs from 6 November until 23 December. Festive stalls from 10am – 7pm.
Clarks Village Artisan Christmas Market usually takes place from late November until Christmas Eve. Plenty of festive fun – you can even ice skate!
Clevedon Christmas Market 2026 date TBC. 10am – 3pm in St. Andrew’s Church Centre. Free parking!
Frome’s Independent Market is guaranteed to be a festive occasion on 6 December 2026. 10am – 3pm.
Glastonbury Abbey’s Medieval Christmas Market usually takes place at the end of November. 10am – 4pm in the Abbey. Free entry!
Christmas Medieval Fair at Glastonbury Abbey
Mendip Christmas Fair takes place at the Aldwick Estate in Redhill, Bristol on 14 and 15 November 2026.
The Root Connections Christmas Market is a 2 day event which usually tales place at the end of November. It’s located at St. John’s Church in Chilcompton.
Shepton Mallet Market includes a Christmas light switch on. The Christmas Special market takes place on 29 November 2026. 11am – 5pm.
Taunton Christmas Craft Fair takes place on Fore Street in the town centre. The Taunton Winterfest is usually held on a Sunday in late November.
The Cheese & Grain Christmas Gift Market in Frome often takes place in early December. 2026 date TBC.
Wedmore Christmas Market in early December. 2026 date TBC. At Wedmore Village Farm.
Wells Christmas Market usually takes place in early December. 9am until 3pm. Wells Market Place and the Bishop’s Palace Green host 100+ festive stalls selling a wide range of products.
Wells Museum often holds a Christmas Craft Market on an early Saturday in December. 11am – 3pm. There’s free entry to the museum and a free Christmas decoration workshop.
Wincanton Christmas Fair is on 1 December 2026 10am – 4pm. Admission is £5 (in support of the Children’s Hospice South West).
Yeovil Christmas Market at the Yeovil Showground usually gets underway at 6pm on a Sunday in mid December.

Christmas at Cheddar Gorge
Go underground and find Santa’s elves making gifts in Gough’s Cave. Father Christmas will be visiting on selected dates from mid November until Christmas Eve. Find out more. Booking essential.
You can also ‘go below’ to experience a Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole. Selected dates from 21 November to 24 December 2026.
Bishop’s Palace, Wells – Christmas Garden Illuminations
The gardens are illuminated on selected dates from early to late December. The illuminations are turned on at 4.30pm until 7.30pm. Last entry is at 7pm. There is a charge to see the lights.
Visit Santa at Glastonbury Abbey in late November and mid December. 2026 dates TBC.
Light up the Lake in Clevedon. Usually takes place in early December. 2026 date TBC. Festivities begin at 4pm.

Wedmore by Lamplight is usually in early December. 2026 date TBC. Crib service in St. Mary’s Church followed by carols. Then the lantern parade. 5.30pm – 8.30pm enjoy late night shopping and entertainment.
Fancy singing some carols under concorde?! Well, you can at Fleet Air Arm Museum. 2026 December dates TBC.
How about some twilight tobogganing? Usually runs from early November until early January. At Mendip Activity Centre.
Catch the Frost Fayre in Glastonbury 10am -6pm. This event takes place on the last Saturday in November. Peace and Goodwill to all. Over the same weekend there is usually free entry to Glastonbury Abbey and the Medieval Christmas market held there.
At Ice Volt in Radstock you can ice skate, meet Santa and grab a drink in an alpine bar. Open 7 days a week. 13 November 2026 – 3 January 2027.
All aboard the Santa Express – West Somerset Railway. Runs on selected dates 1 – 24 December. Climb aboard a festively decorated heritage carriage and take a journey through Somerset woodlands. Santa leaves presents and refreshments on the tables and he’ll be checking to ensure you have been good! Booking essential.
You can also see Santa at the Bath and West Showground. He’ll be onboard a steam train in December. 2026 dates TBC. Booking essential.
Carols by Candlelight in Wells Cathedral takes place on December 19, 20 & 21 from 7pm. Absolutely magical and very atmospheric. The Cathedral is lit with over 3,000 candles. Enjoy choral classics sung by Wells Cathedral Choir plus festive readings and poetry. Tickets sell quickly.

Shepton Mallet Lantern Parade is usually on just before Christmas. 2026 date TBC. Meet at the bandstand. Lantern workshops take place on various dates in November and December.
Dunster Castle hosts a wide range of Christmas events from mid November until early 4 January. Dunster is a beautiful medieval village and well worth a visit at any time of year.

The Festival of Lights at Longleat
Just over the border in Wiltshire (but only 16 miles from my B&B) lies Longleat House. In 2026, the theme is Legendary Worlds. 7 November 2026 until 10 January 2027.

Christmas at Stourhead 2025
A beautiful location at any time of year. This famous Wiltshire estate will be lit with illuminations from 27 November 2026 until 3 January 2027.
The 1 mile trail takes around 90 minutes to walk and features giant baubles, glistening trees and illuminated tunnels. You may also spot Father Christmas! Trails need to be booked in advance.
