Countryside getaways

Countryside getaways have a great allure. Fresh air, peace and quiet, beautiful scenery – the list of reasons could go on and on.

Most of us live life at a frantic pace and spare time is a precious commodity. Time to relax. Time to sit down and think. Time to visit friends and family (rather than telephoning/texting/tweeting). Often it’s only during a ‘proper’ holiday that we have the time (and fewer distractions) to enjoy a good old natter.

Despite all that, it appears as though many of us are reluctant to tear ourselves away from work. Not content with answering emails outside office hours, a great number of us don’t even take the time off that we are entitled to. Last year, a survey by TravelSupermarket found that 15% of British workers were ‘too busy’ to take time off, so 6.5 million days of holiday went unused! Just think of all those countryside getaways that went begging…

Festive breaks

Christmas is a time when many of us do take a break and make a real effort to catch up with family and friends. However, one of the downsides can be the amount of time spent travelling. Fitting it all in can mean having to plan visits with a great deal of precision. Two hours here, three hours there – often a recipe for even more stress! (And the poor driver can’t even enjoy a mulled wine or two.)

One solution is hiring a cottage or country house to meet up in. There isn’t the pressure on the host to ‘entertain’ and everyone can unwind in a neutral location. It can make for a far more relaxing and enjoyable time – a proper break for everyone.

Countryside getaways in your own B&B

As a ‘Somerset girl’ (and bed and breakfast owner) I’m clearly biased as to where you should spend quality holiday time! The county of Somerset really does offer so much to see and do.

Unlike most traditional B&Bs, The Cross can be hired out in its entirety (comfortably sleeping 14 people). The terms are flexible; I can supply breakfast and evening meals or guests can hire the premises on a self-catering basis. (Mells has its own kitchenette.)

Countryside getaways

I’m happy to give suggestions for great family days out and I can even organise tours. Come and go as you please and do as much or as little as you like. (For a comprehensive list of what’s on in the county, Visit Somerset.)

Subject to availability, this opportunity is available all year round. (Countryside getaways aren’t just for Christmas!)

If you would like to find out more please get in touch. In the meantime, the best of luck with your Christmas plans.
