We all need to do our bit to help the planet. However, I understand that when taking a well-earned break, you may wish to savour an extra sausage at breakfast or indulge in a long, hot soak. Anything that you can do during your stay to reuse and recycle is appreciated.

For my part, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, and food waste is collected by Somerset council’s recycling service. Light bulbs are low energy and hand soap dispensers are refillable. The bottled water in the bedrooms is tap water.

I also endeavour to source local produce. Meat is from a Somerset butcher who supports local farmers and wine purchased from an excellent local supplier. (My ‘Suppers with Kate’ are also all about using seasonal, local produce. Some of which is grown or foraged by Kate.)

Garden weeds and ‘green’ waste from my gardens is taken to the local recycling centre. The council then turn this into compost and sell it! The recycling centre also has an ‘energy from waste’ skip which is for non-recyclable items. This provides another opportunity to avoid items from my B&B going to landfill.

Thank you for your help and enjoy your stay.
